02.Nov.2009 Brace yourselves folks, its another iPhone killer!
Another day and yet another iPhone killer, step forward the Motorola droid/Palm Pre/Nokia n97.
Apple iPhone is not just a phone, it is the latest addition to the Apple mobile technology/entertainment platform that includes itouch, iPods, iTunes and the app store. This is an end to end service which has been built up gradually, the masses have been taught slowly how to use the service along the way. They are now at a point where they can comfortably and reliably shop online for apps, music, video using their Mac/PC/iPhone.
A competing product has to do more than turn up to the party with bigger technical specs. We need an *intuitive* ui that removes the geek and replaces it with normob. We need an easy to access location to browse and purchase media and apps. Instead of learning how to customise, how about just providing the answer and empowering the user with easy access to results rather than getting bogged down in the methods.
I can only think that to announce your device can literally kill off the iPhone is already a fail. It is a PR stunt to just ride the coat tails of the all conquering iPhone. Don’t forget that the iPhone is still niche (at the moment), there is plenty of room for everyone.
Here is a roll call of some iPhone killers:
